Mormon to hill Shim on a world map

Commentary    up to world map

Antum, by the hill Shim, was first mentioned in Mormon 1:4, "And when ye are of that age, go to the land of Antum, unto a hill, which shall be called Shim; and there have I deposited unto the Lord, all the sacred engravings concerning this people." Mormon 1:43 refers to this description.

It's interesting that the Nephites, when fleeing the land of David, did not stop at Bountiful, but continued to the Sea West coast to the land of Joshua. One explanation is that Joshua is located near the narrow pass that leads into the land southward. This would mean that the reason for occupying Joshua was a matter of defense against any Lamanite army that tried to come into the narow neck by way of the land southward. If Bountiful still had sufficient defenses, this might explain why the Lamanite army did not pursue the Nephites to Joshua. This can also explain why the Nephites eventually had to flee northward to Jashon. From the world location, any army approaching the west coast by way of Bountiful would cut off any northward retreat. A Lamanite army coming through the land southward would permit retreat northward.
