Lamanite army to Ammonihah on a world map

Commentary    up to world map

The additional cities added in these verses (Manti and Noah) shows the continued growth outward from Zarahemla.

Alma 11:2, "come in upon the wilderness side" indicates that the land of Ammonihah is part hilly or mountainous and part flat, which is consistent with the wordl location.

The Lamanites attacked the cities that were on the borders, which is a common attack strategy. Crossing the river Sidon (Usumacinta river - the name changes to Rio Salinas near Manti) around the hill Riplah was a common crossing point for the Maya as the river is one of the easiest places to enter the wilderness (South Wilderness) and where the river changes to a narrow, relatively shallow, mountain stream rather than a deep, broad river that it turns into north of the hill Riplah.
