Verses    up to the internal map  down to the world map

Alma 26:134 And thus we did go forth with all our might against the Lamanites, who were in the city of Manti; and we did pitch our tents by the wilderness side, which was near to the city.

Alma 26:137 And also supposing that they could easily destroy us with their numerous hosts, therefore they began to make preparations to come out against us to battle.

Alma 26:138 And when we saw that they were making preparations to come out against us, behold, I caused that Gid, with a small number of men, should secrete himself in the wilderness, and also that Teomner should, with a small number of men, secrete themselves also in the wilderness.

Alma 26:139 Now Gid and his men were on the right, and the others on the left; and when they had thus secreted themselves, behold, I remained with the remainder of my army, in that same place where we had first pitched our tents, against the time that the Lamanites should come out to battle.

Alma 26:140 And it came to pass that the Lamanites did come out with their numerous army against us.

Alma 26:141 And when they had come and were about to fall upon us with the sword, I caused that my men, those who were with me, should retreat into the wilderness.

Alma 26:142 And it came to pass that the Lamanites did follow after us with great speed, for they were exceedingly desirous to overtake us, that they might slay us; therefore they did follow us into the wilderness;

Alma 26:143 And we did pass by in the midst of Gid and Teomner, insomuch that they were not discovered by the Lamanites.

Alma 26:144 And it came to pass that when the Lamanites had passed by, or when the army had passed by, Gid and Teomner did rise up from their secret places, and did cut off the spies of the Lamanites, that they should not return to the city.

Alma 26:145 And it came to pass that when they had cut them off, they ran to the city, and fell upon the guards who were left to guard the city, insomuch that they did destroy them, and did take possession of the city.

Alma 26:148 And it came to pass that we took our course, after having traveled much in the wilderness, towards the land of Zarahemla.

Alma 26:149 And when the Lamanites saw that they were marching towards the land of Zarahemla, they were exceeding fraid, lest there was a plan laid to lead them on to destruction; therefore they began to retreat into the wilderness again, yea, even back by the same way which they had come.

Alma 26:150 And behold, it was night, and they did pitch their tents; for the chief captains of the Lamanites had supposed that the Nephites were weary, because of their march; and supposing that they had driven their whole army, therefore they took no thought concerning the one city of Manti.

Alma 26:151 Now it came to pass that when it was night, that I caused that my men should not sleep, but that they should march forward by another way, towards the land of Manti.

Alma 26:152 And because of this our march in the night time, behold, on the morrow, we were beyond the Lamanites, insomuch that we did arrive before them to the city of Manti.

Alma 26:153 And thus it came to pass, that by this stratagem, we did take possession of the city of Manti, without the shedding of blood.

Alma 26:154 And it came to pass that when the armies of the Lamanites did arrive near the city, and saw that we were prepared to meet them, they were astonished exceedingly, and struck with great fear, insomuch that they did flee into the wilderness.

Alma 27:5 And it came to pass that while Moroni was thus making preparations to go against the Lamanites to battle, behold, the people of Nephihah who were gathered together from the city of Moroni, and the city of Lehi, and the city of Morianton, were attacked by the Lamanites;

Alma 27:6 Yea, even those who had been compelled to flee from the land of Manti, and from the land round about, had come over and joined the lamanites in this part of the land;

Alma 27:7 And thus being exceeding numerous, yea, and receiving strength from day to day, by the command of Ammoron, they came forth against the people of Nephihah, and they did begin to slay them with an exceeding great slaughter.

Alma 27:8 And their armies were so numerous, that the remainder of the people of Nephihah were obliged to flee before them; and they came even and joined the army of Moroni.

Alma 28:3 Behold, there are those who do joy in your afflictions; yea, insomuch that they have risen up in rebellion against me, and also those of my people who are freemen; yea, and those who have risen up are exceeding numerous.

Alma 28:4 And it is those who have sought to take away the judgment seat from me, that have been the cause of this great iniquity;

Alma 28:5 For they have used great flattery; and they have led away the hearts of many people, which will be the cause of sore affliction among us; they have withheld our provisions, and have daunted our freemen, that they have not come unto you.

Alma 28:6 And behold, they have driven me out before them, and I have fled to the land of Gideon, with as many men as it were possible that I could get.

Alma 29:3 And it came to pass that Moroni took a small number of men according to the desire of Pahoran, and gave Lehi and Teancum command over the remainder of his army, and took his march towards the land of Gideon.

Alma 29:4 And he did raise the standard of liberty in whatsoever place he did enter, and gained whatsoever force he could in all his march towards the land of Gideon.

Alma 29:6 And thus when Moroni had gathered together whatsoever men he could in all his march, he came to the land of Gideon; and uniting his forces with that of Pahoran, they became exceeding strong, even stronger than the men of Pachus, who was the king of those dissenters who had driven out the freemen out of the land of Zarahemla, and had taken possession of the land.

Alma 29:7 And it came to pass that Moroni and Pahoran went down with their armies into the land of Zarahemla, and went forth against the city, and did meet the men of Pachus, insomuch that they did come to battle.

Alma 29:8 And behold, Pachus was slain, and his men were taken prisoners; and Pahoran was restored to his judgment seat.

Alma 29:13 And it came to pass in the commencement of the thirty and first year of the reign of the Judges over the people of Nephi, Moroni immediately caused that provisions should be sent, and also an army of six thousand men should be sent unto Helaman, to assist him in preserving that part of the land;

Alma 29:14 And he also caused that an army of six thousand men, with a sufficient quantity of food, should be sent to the armies of Lehi and Teancum.

Commentary    up to world map

The description that an army coming from Cumeni to Manti would camp on the "wilderness side" is consistent with this world location where Cumeni is located to the wilderness side of Manti. The description that armies can travel in the wilderness and suddenly turn towards Zarahemla is also consistent with this world location.

The description of the people of Nephihah traveling to Mulek is almost another proof of the Book of Mormon. To travel from Nephihah to Mulek requires going past the cities held by the Lamanites, the cities of Lehi, Morianton, Omner, and Gid. This would be a very risky path to travel in any narrow neck location except this world location where the Belize Mountains provide a barrier. It is also the only world location where a river system extends from Nephihah to Mulek and provides a natural "highway." Travel along this river system extends into the Peten, a path used often by the Maya, and provides easy access to Gideon and Zarahemla.
