II NEPHI 9:14 [17:1]: And it came to pass in the days of Ahaz the son of Jotham, the son of Uzziah, king of Judah, that Rezin, king of Syria, and Pekah, the son of Remaliah, king of Israel, went up towards Jerusalem to war against it, but could not prevail against it.

Commentary: This verse references the places of Israel, Jerusalem, Judah, and Syria. This verse also occurs in Isaiah 7:1. This verse names these places but provides no information regarding their locations. The phrase 'went up' indicates that Jerusalem is higher in altitude than Judah, Syria, and Israel.

II NEPHI 9:17 [17:4]: And say unto him, Take heed, and be quiet; fear not, neither be fainthearted for the two tails of these smoking fire-brands, for the fierce anger of Rezin with Syria, and the son of Remaliah.

Commentary: This verse references the places of Israel and Syria. This verse also occurs in Isaiah 7:4. The phrase 'son of Remaliah' refers to the king of Israel. This verse indicates that Syria is in proximity to Israel.

II NEPHI 9:44 [18:6]: Forasmuch as this people refuseth the waters of Shiloah that go softly and rejoice in Rezin and Remaliah's son;

Commentary: This verse references the places of Israel, Jerusalem, Syria, and the waters of Shiloah. This verse also occurs in Isaiah 8:6. The term 'this people' refers to the people of Jerusalem. Rezin is the king of Syria. Remaliah's son is the king of Israel. People must be present in order to refuse something, so the phrase 'this people refuseth' indicates the waters of Shiloah are located in Jerusalem.

II NEPHI 9:56 [18:18]: Behold, I and the children whom the Lord hath given me are for signs and for wonders in Israel from the Lord of hosts, which dwelleth in Mount Zion.

Commentary: This verse references the places of Israel and mount Zion. This verse also occurs in Isaiah 8:18. The term 'I' refers to Isaiah. The phrase 'in Israel' names the place as Israel and indicates it is a land. There is no information to locate Israel with respect to Mount Zion.

II NEPHI 9:131 [21:16]: And there shall be a highway for the remnant of his people, which shall be left, from Assyria, like as it was to Israel in the day that he came up out of the land of Egypt.

Commentary: This verse references the places of Assyria, Egypt, and Israel. This verse also occurs in Isaiah 11:16. The term 'his' refers to the Lord. This verse identifies Assyria, Egypt and Israel are separate places. The phrase 'came up out of' indicates that Israel is higher in altitude than Egypt and that Israel is located outside of Egypt.
