Antionum

Antionum

This is the land of Antionum. Due to the practice of naming a land by the same name as the city, it is presumed to also be the city of Antionum. The land of Antionum was near the Sea East shore. The land of Antionum was southward and next to the land of Jershon. There is a ridge between the land of Antionum and the land of Jershon. The land of Antionum was near, or in, the possessions of the Lamanites, which would be the area southward of the South Wilderness. The land of Antionum was on the opposite side (east side) of the river Sidon than the land of Manti (which was on the west side).

Commentaries (view it on a map)

ALMA 16:76 [30:59]: And it came to pass that as he went forth among the people, yea, among a people who had separated themselves from the Nephites, and called themselves Zoramites, being led by a man whose name was Zoram; and as he went forth amongst them, behold, he was run upon, and trodden down, even until he was dead;

Commentary: This verse references the places of Antionum and the South Wilderness. The term 'he' refers to Korihor. The Zoramites were located in the land of Antionum. The Zoramites used to be considered as part of the Nephites. This would put the land of Antionum northward of the possessions of the Lamanites. The South Wilderness is the primary separation between the possessions of the Lamanites and the Nephites. This would put the land of Antionum in proximity to the South Wilderness.

ALMA 16:80 [31:3]: Now the Zoramites had gathered themselves together in a land which they called Antionum, which was east of the land of Zarahemla, which lay nearly bordering upon the seashore, which was south of the land of Jershon, which also bordered upon the wilderness south, which wilderness was full of the Lamanites.

Commentary: This verse references the places of Antionum, the hill Onidah, Jershon, the Sea East, the South Wilderness, and Zarahemla. The phrase 'nearly' means close, but not next to the Sea East seashore. The land of Antionum is south of the land of Jershon and bordered the South Wilderness. All clauses using 'which' in this verse except the last clause refer to the land of Antionum. This verse indirectly locates the hill Onidah in the land of Antionum since Alma later speaks to the Zoramites on the hill Onidah.

ALMA 16:81 [31:4]: Now the Nephites greatly feared that the Zoramites would enter into a correspondence with the Lamanites, and that it would be the means of great loss on the part of the Nephites.

Commentary: This verse references the places of Antionum and the South Wilderness. The Zoramites were close enough to the possessions of the Lamanites that the Lamanites could influence them. This would put the land of Antionum close to the South Wilderness.

ALMA 16:83 [31:6]: Therefore he took Ammon, and Aaron, and Omner; and Himni he did leave in the church in Zarahemla; but the former three he took with him, and also Amulek and Zeezrom, who were at Melek; and he also took two of his sons.

Commentary: This verse references the places of Antionum, Melek, and Zarahemla. The land of Melek is in proximity to the land of Zarahemla or on the way from the land of Zarahemla to the land of Antionum.

ALMA 16:97 [31:21]: Now the place was called by them Rameumptom, which being interpreted, is the Holy Stand.

Commentary: This verse references the places of Antionum and Rameumptom. The term 'them' refers to the Zoromites who were living in the land of Antionum. Rameumptom is located in the land of Antionum. Alma 16:89 [31:13] places Rameumptom as the center of a synagogue.

ALMA 16:124 [32:4]: Now as Alma was teaching and speaking unto the people upon the hill Onidah, there came a great multitude unto him, who were those of whom we have been speaking, who were poor in heart, because of their poverty as to the things of the world.

Commentary: This verse references the places of Antionum and the hill Onidah. Alma was in the land of Antionum at this time speaking to the Zoramites. This places the hill Onidah in the land of Antionum.

ALMA 16:240 [35:1]: Now it came to pass that after Amulek had made an end of these words, they withdrew themselves from the multitude, and came over into the land of Jershon;

Commentary: This verse references the places of Antionum, Jershon, and a ridge between the land of Antionum and the land of Jershon. Amulek went from the land of Antionum to the land of Jershon. The phrase 'came over' means that there is a ridge between the land of Antionum and the land of Jershon.

ALMA 16:241 [35:2]: Yea, and the rest of the brethren, after they had preached the word unto the Zoramites, also came over into the land of Jershon.

Commentary: This verse references the places of Antionum, Jershon, and the ridge between the land of Antionum and the land of Jershon. Amulek went from the land of Antionum to the land of Jershon. The phrase 'came over' means that there is a ridge between the land of Antionum and the land of Jershon.

ALMA 16:245 [35:6]: And it came to pass that after they had found out the minds of all the people, those who were in favor of the words which had been spoken by Alma and his brethren, were cast out of the land; and they were many, and they came over also into the land of Jershon.

Commentary: This verse references the places of Antionum, Jershon, and a ridge between the land of Antionum and the land of Jershon. Other people in the land of Antionum went from the land of Antionum to the land of Jershon. The phrase 'came over' means that there is a ridge between the land of Antionum and the land of Jershon. With a large number of people leaving the land of Antionum to go to the land of Jershon and not to other lands would indicate that the land of Jershon was next to the land of Antionum.

ALMA 16:247 [35:8]: Now the people of the Zoramites were angry with the people of Ammon who were in Jershon, and the chief ruler of the Zoramites being a very wicked man, sent over unto the people of Ammon desiring them that they should cast out of their land all those who came over from them into their land.

Commentary: This verse references the places of Antionum, Jershon, and a ridge between the land of Antionum and the land of Jershon. The Zoramites were in the land of Antionum. The people of Ammon were in the land of Jershon. The phrases of 'sent over' and 'came over' means there is a ridge between the land of Jershon and the land of Antionum.

ALMA 16:249 [35:9]: And now the people of Ammon did not fear their words, therefore they did not cast them out, but they did receive all the poor of the Zoramites that came over unto them;

Commentary: This verse references the places of Antionum, Jershon, and a ridge between the land of Antionum and the land of Jershon. The Zoramites were in the land of Antionum. The people of Ammon were in the land of Jershon. The phrase 'came over' means there is a ridge between the land of Jershon and the land of Antionum.

ALMA 16:254 [35:13]: And the people of Ammon departed out of the land of Jershon, and came over into the land of Melek, and gave place in the land of Jershon for the armies of the Nephites, that they might contend with the armies of the Lamanites, and the armies of the Zoramites;

Commentary: This verse references the places of Antionum, Jershon, Melek, and a ridge between the land of Jershon and the land of Melek. The land of Melek is in proximity to the land of Jershon. The phrase 'came over' means that there is a ridge between the land of Jershon and the land of Melek. The Zoramites were in the land of Antionum.

ALMA 20:4 [43:4]: For behold, it came to pass that the Zoramites became Lamanites; therefore in the commencement of the eighteenth year, the people of the Nephites saw that the Lamanites were coming upon them; therefore they made preparations for war; yea, they gathered together their armies in the land of Jershon.

Commentary: This verse references the places of Antionum and Jershon. The Zoramites were in the land of Antionum. To prepare for an attack would indicate that the land of Jershon is in close proximity to the land of Antionum.

ALMA 20:5 [43:5]: And it came to pass that the Lamanites came with their thousands; and they came into the land of Antionum, which was the land of the Zoramites; and a man by the name of Zerahemnah was their leader.

Commentary: This verse references the places of Antionum and the South Wilderness. The Zoramites had turned into Lamanites. This indicates that the land of Antionum is near the borders of the Lamanite possessions (the area southward of the South Wilderness).

ALMA 20:17 [43:15]: And it came to pass as the armies of the Lamanites had gathered together in the land of Antionum, behold the armies of the Nephites were prepared to meet them in the land of Jershon.

Commentary: This verse references the places of Antionum and Jershon. The land of Antionum is near the land of Jershon. Preparing to meet an army is done in the land where the enemy is preparing to attack. Gathered armies imply the land of Jershon is next to the land of Antionum.

ALMA 20:20 [43:18]: And it came to pass that he met the Lamanites in the land of Jershon, and his people were armed with swords, and with cimeters, and all manner of weapons of war.

Commentary: This verse references the places of Antionum and Jershon. The term 'he' refers to Moroni. Meeting in the land of Jershon from the land of Antionum implies the land of Jershon is next to the land of Antionum.

ALMA 20:25 [43:22]: Behold, now it came to pass, that they durst not come against the Nephites in the borders of Jershon; therefore they departed out of the land of Antionum, into the wilderness, and took their journey round about in the wilderness, away by the head of the river Sidon, that they might come into the land of Manti, and take possession of the land; for they did not suppose that the armies of Moroni would know whither they had gone.

Commentary: This verse references the places of Antionum, Jershon, Manti, river Sidon, the headwaters of the river Sidon, the Sea East, and the South Wilderness. The phrase 'borders of Jershon' implies the land of Antionum bordered the land of Jershon. There is wilderness near the land of Jershon and the head of the river Sidon. The land of Manti is near the head of the river Sidon on the opposite side of the river from the land of Antionum. From previous verses, the land of Manti is on the westward side of the river Sidon. This means the land of Antionum is on the eastward side of the river Sidon and near the Sea East. The wilderness at the head of the river Sidon is referenced in other verses as the South Wilderness.
