ALMA 14:63 [25:5]: And the remainder having fled into the east wilderness, and having usurped the power and authority over the Lamanites, caused that many of the Lamanites should perish by fire, because of their belief:
Commentary: This verse references the places of Ammonihah and the East Wilderness. The phrase 'the remainder' refers to the Lamanites. There is a wilderness in proximity to the land of Ammonihah. Alma 14:61 [25:3] indicates there were many battles before the Lamanites were driven to the East Wilderness, so the East Wilderness is not necessarily in close proximity to the land of Ammonihah.
ALMA 14:73 [25:13]: And it came to pass that when the Lamanites saw that they could not overpower the Nephites, they returned again to their own land; and many of them came over to dwell in the land of Ishmael and the land of Nephi, and did join themselves to the people of God, who were the people of Anti-Nephi-Lehi;
Commentary: This verse references the places of Ishmael, Nephi, a ridge between the East Wilderness and Ishmael and Nephi, and the East Wilderness. The Lamanites were in the East Wilderness at this time. The phrase 'came over' means the Lamanites came over a ridge in order to get to the land of Nephi and the land of Ishmael.
ALMA 22:7 [50:7]: And it came to pass that Moroni caused that his armies should go forth into the east wilderness; yea, and they went forth, and drove all the Lamanites who were in the east wilderness into their own lands, which were south of the land of Zarahemla;
Commentary: This verse references the places of Ammonihah, the East wilderness, and Zarahemla. The East Wilderness is east of Ammonihah although no close proximity is implied in this verse. The Lamanites lands were south of Zarahemla. The phrase 'and it came to pass' indicates a length of time passed. Alma 14:61 [25:3] mentions 'they had many battles' between the time of destroying Ammonihah and going to the East Wilderness.
ALMA 22:9 [50:9]: And it came to pass that when Moroni had driven all the Lamanites out of the east wilderness, which was north of the lands of their own possessions, he caused that the inhabitants who were in the land of Zarahemla, and in the land round about, should go forth into the east wilderness, even to the borders, by the sea-shore, and possess the land.
Commentary: This verse references the places of the Sea East, the East Wilderness, the South Wilderness, and Zarahemla. The land of Zarahemla is in general proximity to the East Wilderness. The East Wilderness has a seashore on the east side of the wilderness. This would be the Sea East. The phrase 'north of the lands of their own possessions' means the East Wilderness is north of the South Wilderness that separates the possessions of the Lamanites from the Nephites. The term 'even' indicates the East Wilderness extended to the borders that were by the seashore, thus the East Wilderness is next to the Sea East.
ALMA 22:11 [50:11]: And thus he cut off all the strongholds of the Lamanites, in the east wilderness: yea, and also on the west, fortifying the line between the Nephites and the Lamanites, between the land of Zarahemla and the land of Nephi; from the west sea, running by the head of the river Sidon;
Commentary: This verse references the places of Manti, Nephi, river Sidon, the headwaters of the river Sidon, the Sea West, the East Wilderness, and Zarahemla. The line between the Nephites and Lamanites ran from the West Sea past the headwaters of the river Sidon to the East Wilderness. This puts the headwaters of the river Sidon between the land of Nephi and the land of Zarahemla. The land of Manti is near the headwaters of the river Sidon, so the land of Manti is also between the land of Nephi and the land of Zarahemla.
ALMA 27:6 [59:6]: Yea, even those who had been compelled to flee from the land of Manti, and from the land round about, had come over and joined the Lamanites in this part of the land;
Commentary: This verse references the places of Lehi, Manti, Morianton, Moroni, a ridge between Manti and Moroni, and the East Wilderness. The phrase 'come over' means there is a ridge between the land of Manti and the lands of Moroni, Lehi, and Morianton. The phrase 'this part of the land' refers to the lands of Moroni, Lehi, and Morianton. The East Wilderness lies just to the east of the lands of Moroni, Lehi, and Morianton, which would suffice for the location of the ridge.
ALMA 29:39 [62:34]: And it came to pass that Moroni, and Lehi, and Teancum, did encamp with their armies round about in the borders of the land of Moroni, insomuch that the Lamanites were encircled about in the borders by the wilderness, on the south, and in the borders by the wilderness, on the east; and thus they did encamp for the night.
Commentary: This verse references the places of Moroni, Nephihah, the East Wilderness, and the South Wilderness. The South Wilderness is the wilderness on the south of the land of Moroni. The East Wilderness is the wilderness on the east of the land of Moroni. This verse indicates that the East Wilderness meets or almost meets the South Wilderness in proximity of the land of Moroni in order to encircle the land of Moroni. Moroni (the person) was pursuing them from the land of Nephihah, which was northward and westward of the land of Moroni. In Alma 29:42 [62:36], the Lamanites were encamped in the city of Moroni. The phrase 'round about' indicates the armies of Moroni, and Lehi, and Teancum were to the north, west, and south of the city of Moroni. The Sea East shore would be to the east of the city.
III NEPHI 2:39 [4:1]: And it came to pass that in the latter end of the eighteenth year, those armies of robbers had prepared for battle, and began to come down, and to sally forth from the hills, and out of the mountains, and the wilderness, and their strongholds, and their secret places,
Commentary: This verse references the places of Lehi, Mulek, and the East Wilderness. This verse indicates a close relationship between hills, mountains, and wildernesses. This wilderness is near the land of Lehi and the land of Mulek as described in III Nephi 2:40 [4:1]. This indicates that the wilderness here is the East Wilderness.
III NEPHI 2:40 [4:1]: And began to take possession of the lands both which was in the land south, and which was in the land north, and began to take possession of all the lands which had been deserted by the Nephites, and the cities which had been left desolate.
Commentary: This verse references the places of Lehi, Mulek, and the East Wilderness. Robbers took possession of the land south and land north. The land south is the land of Lehi. The land north is the land of Mulek.
