ALMA 22:26 [50:25]: And it came to pass that in the commencement of the twenty and fourth year of the reign of the Judges, there would also have been peace among the people of Nephi, had it not been for a contention which took place among them concerning the land of Lehi, and the land of Morianton, which joined upon the borders of Lehi; both of which were on the borders by the sea-shore.
Commentary: This verse references the places of Lehi, Morianton, and the Sea East. The land of Morianton joined the land of Lehi, so the land of Morianton is next to the land of Lehi. Both of these lands were on the Sea East seashore.
ALMA 22:27 [50:26]: For behold, the people who possessed the land of Morianton did claim a part of the land of Lehi; therefore there began to be a warm contention between them, insomuch that the people of Morianton took up arms against their brethren, and they were determined by the sword to slay them.
Commentary: This verse references the places of Lehi and Morianton. The land of Morianton is next to the land of Lehi and is close enough to cause a dispute over an area between the two lands.
ALMA 22:30 [50:29]: Therefore, Morianton put it into their hearts that they should flee to the land which was northward, which was covered with large bodies of water, and take possession of the land which was northward.
Commentary: This verse references the places of the land northward, the land which was northward, and Morianton. Morianton was in the land of Morianton at this time. The land which was northward had large bodies of water. Since 'bodies' is plural, there are at least two large bodies of water in the land northward. The 'land which was northward' is referred to as the land northward in Alma 22:32 [50:31].
ALMA 22:32 [50:31]: And it came to pass that she fled, and came over to the camp of Moroni, and told Moroni all things concerning the matter; and also concerning their intentions to flee into the land northward.
Commentary: This verse references the places of Bountiful, the land northward, the land which was northward, Morianton, and a ridge between Bountiful and Morianton. The land northward was earlier referred to in Alma 22:30 [50:29] as 'the land which was northward'. The phrase 'came over' indicates there is a ridge between the land Bountiful and the land of Morianton.
ALMA 22:34 [50:33]: Therefore Moroni sent an army, with their camp, to head the people of Morianton, to stop their flight into the land northward.
Commentary: This verse references the places of Bountiful, the land northward, and Morianton. The term 'their' refers to Morianton and his people. Moroni was in the land Bountiful at this time. So, the land Bountiful is in between the land of Morianton and the land northward.
ALMA 22:39 [50:36]: And upon their covenanting to keep the peace, they were restored to the land of Morianton, and a union took place between them and the people of Lehi; and they were also restored to their lands.
Commentary: This verse references the places of Lehi and Morianton. The term 'their' refers to the people of Morianton. The disputed land between the land of Morianton and the land of Lehi is resolved.
ALMA 23:32 [51:26]: And thus he went on, taking possession of many cities: the city of Nephihah, and the city of Lehi, and the city of Morianton, and the city of Omner, and the city of Gid, and the city of Mulek, all of which were on the east borders, by the sea-shore.
Commentary: This verse references the places of Gid, Lehi, Morianton, Moroni, Mulek, Nephihah, Omner, and the Sea East. The term 'he' refers to Amalickiah, the leader of the Lamanite army. The cities of Lehi and Morianton are in lands with the same name as the city. By practice, all of these cities should be in a land by the same name. These cities are listed in geographical order, so they share a border with the cities listed next to them. Combined with the other information about the city of Nephihah, the city of Nephihah is between the city of Moroni and the city of Lehi, yet further inland. Since the land of Moroni joins the south border of the land of Lehi, the cities listed here extend the opposite direction. So, they are listed from south to north. Also, since the land of Moroni is on the Sea East shore and borders the land of Lehi on the south, the only place for the land of Nephihah to join the border of the land of Lehi is on the westward border of the land of Moroni.
ALMA 24:15 [52:13]: And thus he was endeavoring to harass the Nephites and to draw away a part of their forces to that part of the land, while he had commanded those whom he had left to possess the cities which he had taken, that they should also harass the Nephites on the borders by the east sea; and should take possession of their lands as much as it was in their power, according to the power of their armies.
Commentary: This verse references the places of Gid, Lehi, Morianton, Mulek, Nephihah, Omner, and the Sea East. The term 'he' refers to King Ammoron. The borders by the east sea that he controlled were the city of Nephihah, the city of Lehi, the city of Morianton, the city of Omner, the city of Gid, and the city of Mulek (see Alma 23:32 [51:26]).
ALMA 27:5 [59:5]: And it came to pass that while Moroni was thus making preparations to go against the Lamanites to battle, behold, the people of Nephihah who were gathered together from the city of Moroni, and the city of Lehi, and the city of Morianton, were attacked by the Lamanites;
Commentary: This verse references the places of Lehi, Morianton, Moroni, and Nephihah. The cities of Moroni, Lehi, and Morianton are listed in order, so they share borders with each other in the order listed.
ALMA 27:6 [59:6]: Yea, even those who had been compelled to flee from the land of Manti, and from the land round about, had come over and joined the Lamanites in this part of the land;
Commentary: This verse references the places of Lehi, Manti, Morianton, Moroni, a ridge between Manti and Moroni, and the East Wilderness. The phrase 'come over' means there is a ridge between the land of Manti and the lands of Moroni, Lehi, and Morianton. The phrase 'this part of the land' refers to the lands of Moroni, Lehi, and Morianton. The East Wilderness lies just to the east of the lands of Moroni, Lehi, and Morianton, which would suffice for the location of the ridge.
