Nehor (Kingdom Of Shule)

Nehor (Kingdom Of Shule)

This is the land of Nehor. Due to the practice of naming a land by the same name as the city, it is presumed to also be the city of Nehor. The land of Nehor was next to the land of Moron. The land of Nehor was northward of the land southward. The land of Nehor was next to, and westward of, the land of Heth. The land of Nehor was eastward of the Promised Land and the Sea West. The land of Nehor is in proximity to the hill Ephraim. The land of Nehor was several days travel from the hill Shim.

Commentaries (view it on a map)

ETHER 3:41 [7:4]: And when Corihor was thirty and two years old, he rebelled against his father, and went over and dwelt in the land of Nehor; and he begat sons and daughters; and they became exceeding fair; wherefore Corihor drew away many people after him.

Commentary: This verse references the places of Moron and Nehor. Corihor went over from the land of Moron to the land of Nehor. The phrase 'went over' means there is a ridge between the land of Moron and the land of Nehor.

ETHER 3:42 [7:5]: And when he had gathered together an army, he came up unto the land of Moron where the king dwelt, and took him captive, which brought to pass the saying of the Brother of Jared, that they would be brought into captivity.

Commentary: This verse references the places of Moron, Nehor, and the Promised Land (Ether). The term 'him' refers to Kib. Corihor went from the land of Nehor to the land of Moron. The phrase 'up unto' means the land of Moron is higher in altitude than the land of Nehor. Between Ether 3:14 [6:12] and this verse, the location of the people currently in the land of Moron has moved from being in the Promised Land by the seashore to the land of Moron. Ether 3:15 [6:13] mentions they 'went forth upon the land.' This could account for the people moving from the Promised Land (Ether) to the land of Moron.

ETHER 3:46 [7:9]: Wherefore he came to the hill Ephraim, and he did moulten out of the hill, and made swords out of steel for those whom he had drawn away with him; and after he had armed them with swords, he returned to the city Nehor and gave battle unto his brother Corihor, by which means he obtained the kingdom, and restored it unto his father Kib.

Commentary: This verse references the places of the hill Ephraim and Nehor. The hill Ephraim contains some ore to make swords and is in proximity to the land of Nehor.

ETHER 3:54 [7:16]: And he gave battle unto Shule, the king, in which he did obtain the land of their first inheritance; and he became a king over that part of the land.

Commentary: This verse references the places of Moron and Nehor. The term 'he' refers to Noah. The phrase 'land of their first inheritance' refers to the land of Moron since the house of Noah is located in the land of Moron (Ether 3:55 [7:17]).

ETHER 3:55 [7:17]: And it came to pass that he gave battle again unto Shule the king; and he took Shule the king, and carried him away captive into Moron.

Commentary: This verse references the places of Moron and Nehor. The term 'he' refers to Noah. Shule was in the land of Nehor, so the land of Moron is near the land of Nehor.

ETHER 3:56 [7:18]: And it came to pass as he was about to put him to death, the sons of Shule crept into the house of Noah by night and slew him, and broke down the door of the prison and brought out their father, and placed him upon his throne in his own kingdom; wherefore the son of Noah did build up his kingdom in his stead;

Commentary: This verse references the places of Moron and Nehor. The term 'he' refers to Noah. The phrase 'upon his throne in his own kingdom' means the sons of Shule went from the land of Moron back to the land of Nehor.

ETHER 3:58 [7:20]: And the country was divided; and there were two kingdoms, the kingdom of Shule and the kingdom of Cohor, the son of Noah.

Commentary: This verse references the places of Moron and Nehor. The Kingdom of Shule is the land of Nehor. The Kingdom of Cohor is the land of Moron. To be divided meant these lands were next to each other. Both are in proximity to (or in) the Promised Land (Ether).

ETHER 3:60 [7:22]: And now Cohor had a son who was called Nimrod; and Nimrod gave up the kingdom of Cohor unto Shule, and he did gain favor in the eyes of Shule: wherefore Shule did bestow great favors upon him, and he did do in the kingdom of Shule according to his desires;

Commentary: This verse references the places of Moron and Nehor. The Kingdoms of Shule and Cohor were combined, meaning the land of Moron and the land of Nehor were combined. To be combined means they were next to each other.

ETHER 3:67 [8:1]: And it came to pass that he begat Omer, and Omer reigned in his stead.

Commentary: This verse references the place of Nehor. Omer reigned in the land of Nehor.

ETHER 3:69 [8:2]: And Jared rebelled against his father, and came and dwelt in the land of Heth.

Commentary: This verse references the places of Heth and Nehor. The land of Heth is in proximity to the land of Nehor. The land of Heth is probably eastward of the land of Nehor since the Promised Land is to the west, the land of Moron is also in proximity to the sea west and next to Nehor, and the land southward is to the south.

ETHER 3:70 [8:2]: And it came to pass that he did flatter many people, because of his cunning words, until he had gained the half of the kingdom.

Commentary: This verse references the places of Heth and Nehor. The term 'he' refers to Jared. The land of Heth is next to the land of Nehor in order to get half the kingdom. There would not be any area separating the two lands.

ETHER 4:2 [9:2]: Therefore behold, it came to pass that because of the secret combinations of Akish and his friends, behold they did overthrow the kingdom of Omer; nevertheless the Lord was merciful unto Omer, and also to his sons and to his daughters, who did not seek his destruction.

Commentary: This verse references the place of Nehor. The kingdom of Omer is the same as the land of Nehor.

ETHER 4:3 [9:3]: And the Lord warned Omer in a dream that he should depart out of the land; wherefore Omer departed out of the land with his family, and traveled many days, and came over and passed by the hill of Shim,

Commentary: This verse references the places of Heth, hill Shim, Nehor, and a ridge between Heth and the hill Shim. Omer traveled many days from the land of Nehor and passed by the hill of Shim. To travel many days, the hill Shim is not very near the land of Nehor or the land of Heth. The phrase 'came over' means over a ridge before getting to the hill Shim (in order to pass by the hill Shim).

ETHER 4:10 [9:9]: And it came to pass that Nimrah gathered together a small number of men, and fled out of the land, and came over and dwelt with Omer.

Commentary: This verse references the places of the Ablom, Nehor, and a ridge between Ablom and Nehor. Omer was in Ablom at this time. The phrase 'fled out of the land' means Nimrah left the land of Nehor and came over to Ablom where Omer was at the time. The phrase 'came over' means they came over a ridge or elevated terrain between the land of Nehor and Ablom. Earlier travel from the land of Nehor to the land of Ablom puts the land of Nehor southward of the land of Ablom.

ETHER 4:35 [9:30]: And it came to pass that there began to be a great dearth upon the land, and the inhabitants began to be destroyed exceeding fast, because of the dearth, for there was no rain upon the face of the earth; and there came forth poisonous serpents also upon the face of the land, and did poison many people.

Commentary: This verse references the places of the land southward and Nehor. Poisonous serpents were in the land of Nehor, which is just north of the land southward.

ETHER 4:36 [9:31]: And it came to pass that their flocks began to flee before the poisonous serpents, towards the land southward, which was called by the Nephites, Zarahemla.

Commentary: This verse references the places of the land southward, Nehor, and Zarahemla. The land southward is originally stated as north of Zarahemla. The 'fleeing' in this verse is north to south from the land of Nehor towards the land of Zarahemla. This places the land of Nehor northward of the land southward and the land of Zarahemla. Other verses distinctly indicate that the land southward existed outside the boundaries of the land of Zarahemla. ETHER 4:37 [9:32]: And it came to pass that there were many of them which did perish by the way: nevertheless there were some which fled into the land southward.

Commentary: This verse references the places of the land southward and Nehor. The term 'into' indicates that the land southward was outside of the boundaries of the land of Nehor. This verse also indicates the land southward is probably close to the land of Nehor in order for it to be considered a safe place to flee to.

ETHER 4:41 [9:35]: And it came to pass that when they had humbled themselves sufficiently before the Lord, he did send rain upon the face of the earth, and the people began to revive again, and there began to be fruit in the north countries, and in all the countries round about.

Commentary: This verse references the places of Heth, Moron, Narrow Neck, Nehor, and the north country. The term 'they' refers to the people that lived in the north countries. The phrase 'north countries' seems to refer to the lands of Nehor, Heth, and Moron. There were other countries 'round about' the north country. All of these lands are located in or near the narrow neck.

ETHER 4:66 [10:19]: And in the days of Lib the poisonous serpents were destroyed; wherefore they did go into the land southward, to hunt food for the people of the land; for the land was covered with animals of the forest.

Commentary: This verse references the places of Heth, land southward, Moron, Nehor, and the north country. The people of Lib went from the north country, the lands of Nehor, Heth, and Moron, into the land southward. The term 'into' indicates that the lands of Nehor, Heth, and Moron were outside the land southward in order to travel into the land southward. The land southward is not too far from the north country in order to use it for a place to hunt.

ETHER 6:12 [13:11]: And they are they who were scattered and gathered in from the four quarters of the earth, and from the north countries, and are partakers of the fulfilling of the covenant which God made with their father Abraham.

Commentary: This verse references the places of Heth, Moron, Nehor, and the north country. The north countries are the lands of Nehor, Heth, and Moron.
