Directions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees
  2. Saute green pepper, onion, carrots, and celery in 1 tablespoon oil until slightly soft but still crisp (about 4 minutes). Put into a bowl.
  3. Brown the hamburger.
  4. Stir in the vegetables.
  5. Stir in tomato sauce, catsup, salt, lemon pepper and chili powder.
  6. Put in 2 quart casserole.
  7. Stir flour, cornmeal, sugar, baking powder, remaining salt and thyme in a bowl.
  8. Add egg, Egg Beaters, milk, oil, and apple sauce.
  9. Stir until smooth.
  10. Top the hamburger mixture with the cornbread.
  11. Bake uncovered until cornbread is slightly brown and firm to touch (about 30 minutes).
  12. Loosen edges of the cornbread with knife.
