- It would be good if you practice walking long distances

- Toe and foot maintenance are critical for being able to walk long distances
- Get the kind that can be out on a lanyard (to keep from losing them)
- Handy for cutting all sorts of things
- Tie them to something - get the kind with an open rivet in one end

- Allows for greater mobility while not requiring gas

Surviving Natural Disasters
|

- Earthquakes
- During an earthquake, open all interior doors
- The house shifting can shift the framing and jam doors in place
- Power may go out - and stay out for several days
- Solar/Wind/Hand Crank power may be the only power available
- Fuel-powered generators can last for only several days
- Water lines may break
- If there is any water pressure, water may be contaminated
- Water may need to be purified (remember the hand pump?)

- Earthquake Survival
- Three days' water supply for each member of your family (at least 1 gallon per person, per day)
- Three days' supply of nonperishable food, plus a can opener
- First aid kits for your home and autos
- Three days' supply of food and water for your pets
- Flashlights in every room with extra batteries
- Power packs for phones
- Prescription medications
- Whistle
- Swiss Army knife
- Copies of your personal documents
- Extra pair of glasses
- Cash, small bills are best
- The best kit is a large plastic barrel to put all this in - some place outside
- If your house collapses or partially collapses, you won't be able to get to things inside the house

Animals Trying to Kill You

- A study by the Boston Consulting Group found that 8,700 loose dogs were roaming the streets of southern Dallas on any given day -- many of them owned but either allowed to run free or able to escape confinement.
- How many dogs will be turned loose when there is not enough food to feed them?
- How (or what) will the turned-loose dogs eat?

- I want to thank the Good Samaritan that helped me yesterday!! I was walking on Queenswood about 7:30pm and two dogs started following me. One of them was very aggressive and kept getting closer and closer, growling with the fur on his back standing. I kept yelling and they stayed away except for the aggressive one which kept coming at me. I called 911 and a policeman was dispatched but thankfully, a Good Samaritan saw what was happening and stopped to help. I don't know who you are but you were an angel in disguise. I don't think the police would have gotten there in time. Thank you so much!!!

- Home security footage captured the attack on Saturday near Cityplace in uptown Dallas.
- You can see Tom Grounds crossing the street with his small dog named Gadget.
- Suddenly several large dogs rush in from the top right corner of the screen. A neighbor says Grounds appeared to be okay but Gadget was severely hurt and needed surgery.
- "to the people that own these dogs and allow them to be loose - if you are going to have a dog, especially one that is violent, it is your responsibility to keep your dogs under control at all times...this should never have happened."

- Getting "things" - like food and clothing
- Barter - you would need things to trade that you don't need - stock barter items
- Cash ($) - assuming that the Beast doesn't change the monetary system
- Gold - Has large value and using it to make small purchases will be difficult
- How do you make change with gold?
- You would have to cut it
- How do you verify "cut" gold?
- You would need to weigh it
- Pre-cut Gold - 1 gram pieces
- People will not be trusting
- You will need a scale and weights

- What about silver?
- Pre-1965 coins are silver - called "Junk Coins" - no collector value - just silver value
- They are in readily identifiable denominations - dimes, quarters, and half-dollars
- Privately minted 1/10 oz. or 1/2 oz. coins
- US Mint Silver Eagles (1 oz.)
- Silver is better used on smaller purchases
- Lower value per oz. makes it easier to purchase smaller items
