Origins of the Topic

Is the Bible complete?
Revelation 22:18 For I testify unto every man that heareth the words of the prophecy of this book, If any man shall add unto these things, God shall add unto him the plagues that are written in this book:
Commentary: This verse is used by many people to "prove" that the Bible is a closed book and no more books can be added to it. From Deuteronomy 4:2, "Ye shall not add unto the word which I command you, neither shall ye diminish ought from it, that ye may keep the commandments of the Lord your God which I command you." This verse contradicts that interpretation of Revelation 22:18, otherwise there would be no books other than Genesis, Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers, and Deuteronomy. So, Revelation 22:18 cannot mean that there are no more books that contain the Word of God. It really means that God's Word is complete and any book of God's Word cannot introduce new doctrine, it can only explain God's Word.

Do the books of the Bible state that there are more books that contain the Word of God?

Old Testament

The book of the covenant refers to the Torah (Genesis, Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers, and Deuteronomy)
Exodus 24:7 And he took the book of the covenant, and read in the audience of the people: and they said, All that the Lord hath said will we do, and be obedient.
Commentary: The "book of the covenant" is a reference to the Torah (Genesis, Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers, and Deuteronomy). The "book of the law of Moses" is the same as the "book of the covenant" as is referenced in 2 Kings 14:6 and 2 Chronicles 17:9, 25:4, 34:14, 34:30.

Reference URL: Our Creed is not found in a "Confession" written by some man. Our Creed is BIBLE - the King James Authorized Version of 1611 only. We firmly believe that the Bible (KJV 1611) is God's perfect, infallible, innerant, inspired, preserved word. We do not use other Bible versions including all other Philippine dialect Bible versions because of its corruptions and perversion. Any Bible taken or translated from a corrupted text cannot be God's perfect, pure word, for God is absolutely perfect so are His words. Prov. 30:5-6. We are simply God's people of One Book! Our people strongly reject all modern versions due to the fact that they are only fund/money-raising techniques of all Bible and Religious Societies. Unlike most professed Bible-believing churches, we take dogmatically the King James Bible as the sole and Final Authority in all matters of faith and practice. We do not correct the Bible like what our liberal brethren Baptists do, but we let the Bible correct us. If it is in the bible, we believe it, if it is not, we reject it. Every Doctrine must be established by a "THUS SAITH THE LORD".

Of the Holy Scriptures
1. We teach that the Holy Scriptures differ from all other books in the world in that they are the Word of God. They are the Word of God because the holy men of God who wrote the Scriptures wrote only that which the Holy Ghost communicated to them by inspiration, 2 Tim. 3:16; 2 Pet. 1:21. We teach also that the verbal inspiration of the Scriptures is not a so-called "theological deduction," but that it is taught by direct statements of the Scriptures, 2 Tim. 3:16, John 10:35, Rom. 3:2; 1 Cor. 2:13. Since the Holy Scriptures are the Word of God, it goes without saying that they contain no errors or contradictions, but that they are in all their parts and words the infallible truth, also in those parts which treat of historical, geographical, and other secular matters, John 10:35.

2. We furthermore teach regarding the Holy Scriptures that they are given by God to the Christian Church for the foundation of faith, Eph. 2:20. Hence the Holy Scriptures are the sole source from which all doctrines proclaimed in the Christian Church must be taken and therefore, too, the sole rule and norm by which all teachers and doctrines must be examined and judged.

A Review of Luther's Small Catechism: The Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod rejects an "Open" canon and teaches a "Closed Canon", meaning that God has revealed all He wants us to know and believe in the 66 books of Scripture.

Commentary: A closed canon is inconsistent with the additional books mentioned in the Bible. If texts for any of these books should be found, they would contain the Word of God.

Methodist - Inconsistent with Scripture

Article V-Of the Sufficiency of the Holy Scriptures for Salvation: The Holy Scripture containeth all things necessary to salvation; so that whatsoever is not read therein, nor may be proved thereby, is not to be required of any man that it should be believed as an article of faith, or be thought requisite or necessary to salvation. In the name of the Holy Scripture we do understand those canonical books of the Old and New Testament of whose authority was never any doubt in the church. The names of the canonical books are:

Genesis, Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers, Deuteronomy, Joshua, Judges, Ruth, The First Book of Samuel, The Second Book of Samuel, The First Book of Kings, The Second Book of Kings, The First Book of Chronicles, The Second Book of Chronicles, The Book of Ezra, The Book of Nehemiah, The Book of Esther, The Book of Job, The Psalms, The Proverbs, Ecclesiastes or the Preacher, Cantica or Songs of Solomon, Four Prophets the Greater, Twelve Prophets the Less.

All the books of the New Testament, as they are commonly received, we do receive and account canonical.
Commentary: A closed canon is inconsistent with the additional books mentioned in the Bible. If texts for any of these books should be found, they would contain the Word of God.

Pentecostal - Inconsistent with Scripture

Doctrinal views: The UPCI holds a fundamental view of the Bible: "The Bible is the only God-given authority which man possesses; therefore all doctrine, faith, hope, and all instructions for the church must be based upon and harmonize with the Bible" (Manual of the United Pentecostal Church, 19). The Bible is the Word of God, and therefore inerrant and infallible. The UPCI rejects all extrabiblical revelations and writings, and views church creeds and articles of faith only as the thinking of men.
Commentary: A closed canon is inconsistent with the additional books mentioned in the Bible. If texts for any of these books should be found, they would contain the Word of God.
